Now that the functional requirements have been signed off by the Business and handed over to the Development Team for review, design and development we can start work putting the test scripts together. Up until recently I've been calling a "test script" a "test plan". That was until a QA Manager work colleague of mine showed me what a test plan looked like. Nothing I had expected! It was a detailed plan for testing - Imagine that?
In the Resource section, you'll find the test script template that we'll be using in this tutorial. Please note that the template is a first draft and will be improved with use so check back for updates.
Before you write a single word in the test script template, guess what you need? That's right a plan! You need a test script plan. Something that is easy to read and follow to ensure that you dot all your "i's" and cross all your "t's". Don't skip this step, it is important because writing a test script takes days even weeks and even if you had a photographic memory can be very difficult to remember all the cases you need to test.
